Cool Features of Stun Guns and Safety Measures to Use Them!

cool features of stun guns and safety measures to use them

A stun is a pocket-sized device that is designed to immobilize and incapacitate a person through the use of high-voltage pulses. Gunshots or carbon dioxide (CO2) produced from fire extinguishers are also considered stun guns. When activated, it emits an electric shock by sending both low-voltage and high-voltage pulses through electrodes on the end opposite the discharge button.

The shock momentarily paralyzes the muscles that control breathing, causing temporary loss of consciousness, and allowing for officers to restrain a suspect without causing severe injury or death. As a rule of thumb, the higher the milliamps number, the more powerful the gun. But not all stun guns are created equal. In fact, some stun guns can generate as much as 3 milliamps of power, equivalent to that of a low-end 9-volt battery.

The reason for this is that making such a comparison could be misleading without considering other important factors such as voltage, wave frequency, and power output design (or pulse type). Please note that voltage and amperage ratings may vary from one country to another. Some states have specific laws which regulate both possession and carrying of these guns. They are allowed in most countries except Norway, Iceland, and New Zealand.

The Earliest Stun Guns

These guns have been in use for many decades. The first gun was invented by Jack Cover in 1964, who called his device the "Cover Stun Gun". This gun was originally designed to defend against dogs. Cover's invention led to the later development of the Taser by Rick Smith and Tom Smith, who later founded Taser International in 1993.

The Taser is a brand of electroshock weapons owned by Taser International Inc., which was formerly known as Advanced Defense Technologies or ADT. The first stun guns were large and bulky, but today's guns have become more sophisticated, smaller, and lighter in weight. They are disposable devices with a firing button that must be pressed to deliver a shock.

Most guns can be activated by pressing the firing button once, but some models can use a switch or remote control. This gun fires one time after another with the same button press for safety. Non-disposable models exist in which the user manually loads a replaceable cartridge of electrical darts into the device; such a device is commonly referred to as an electroshock weapon or Taser.

Cool Features of Stun Guns

There are various ways to defend oneself, with firearms being one of the most obvious. However, guns can be prohibited or just outright impractical for a lot of people (or even illegal). So what's an alternative? Here are five cool features of stun guns:

1. These guns don't pose a risk of serious injury or death. While these guns can be used to incapacitate someone, they simply don't have the voltage to cause any lethal damage. This means that you can use them in good conscience, in case there's ever a problem where you need to protect yourself but carrying a more lethal weapon isn't an option.

2.  They're not terribly expensive considering what they're capable of. Granted, this is dependent on what type of model you choose; but as long as it's between a few dollars and more, then there's a good chance that this could be your best option in terms of price per effectiveness.

3. They don't have the same type of 'weapon' stigma that real stun guns do. Most people know what a real stun firearm looks like, and they will assume that it can cause some serious damage. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there is a socially accepted idea that weapons aren't something to be used against other people. The other side of this coin is gun keychains and other products for self-defense that are disguised as something else.

4. They're relatively easy to conceal. Mind you, this might become more of an issue if you're doing something like running from the police, but even most people who have a stun can conceal it effectively with just a little effort. It also makes it much easier to use it in conjunction with other self-defense tools (like pepper spray or firearms).

5. They could be used as a last-resort solo defense. While some stun guns are made for this purpose (the ones that use batteries), many people have found that they're better off using them with the help of others, so they can at least try and negotiate their way out of a difficult situation without being put in an even worse position than they already are.

Safety Measures to Use Stun Guns:

The following are safety measures to use stun guns:

  • Only purchase a gun that offers variable output in volts. They allow you to control the amount of power you’re deploying and can be set between 1 and 3 volts.

  • In order to avoid accidental discharge, make sure that when you store your gun, it is in an off position.

  • Do not brandish your weapon in public because it may lead to unintentional discharge or unnecessary escalation of the situation (e.g. if someone gets too close). It's best if people are aware that it is not a toy but a real weapon.

  • Make sure that your stun has light touch switches (Button Activated Activation). These are commonly found on brands such as Taser and will stop working once you release the button.

  • For safer, more effective stun guns, be sure to consider purchasing those equipped with an LED or some sort of light. It will alert everyone that your stun gun is loaded and still functional.

  • Always bring your device with you in a holster or a pocket holster to avoid accidental discharge.
